**HOW TO ROLEPLAY** Empty **HOW TO ROLEPLAY**

Wed Feb 13, 2019 4:44 am
So you want to get in to a whole new aspect of the game, right? Roleplaying creates an entirely new dynamic in the world of fantasy wrestling - and any genre for that matter! So let me go over a few pointers with you to make sure you get a basic idea of what we do here, why, and the benefits of what will likely be a learning experience.

Becoming Your Wrestler

The object of role-playing is to write out your own story and to interact with others. In this particular setting, wrestling is the name of the game. What you must do first is think up a name.. and make it a good one! Originality goes a long way in this type of game so you should choose something that represents you not only as a wrestling character, but your creativity as well. It can almost be explained as a question -- if you were a wrestler, how would you act?

Gimmicks

Although a single gimmick doesn't stick throughout the length of an entire career, it is helpful to establish one in general, whether it be a violent milk man, or a straight forward submission specialist. The possibilities are endless, but your task is to find one that suits your character best; one that will be easy to write stories (as well as continue them) for. Use your imagination! If you were a wrestler, what kind of personality would you have? What shtick?

Selling

The ability of a role-player to continue stories without disregarding the previous entry in said story. Using another player's character in a post, for example -- if a cruiserweight attacked a super heavyweight backstage, proper selling would entail it being written as the super heavyweight not going down with just one attack. The logical direction for something like this would be the cruiserweight using a weapon or rapidly attacking and dodging to avoid the obviously heavier hits of the super heavyweight. On a story-telling level, it is respectful to make the super-heavyweight look strong despite him losing the backstage battle. If the super-heavyweight responds, proper selling would be to acknowledge the attack by the cruiserweight and the damage he suffered.

No-Selling

Often due to not paying attention to on-going stories, no-selling can break a wrestler and lead to no one interacting with the player who doesn't properly sell. Some characters are complex, and some are simple. Some stories take unique twists that the involved parties may miss -- and mistakes happen, as long as they are fixed as soon as possible via role-play. Should the story get too far before the original no-sell can be fixed, be sure to double, or triple-check to make sure every detail is accounted for. Selling and no-selling are the most important factors while role-playing out a story with another wrestler.
